BUNKINTAKASHIMADA
The essential hairstyle to shrine wedding and ceremony of Shinto-style, "BUNKINTAKASHIMADA".
It's a hairstyle with the traditional Japanese coiffure when putting on the dressing in kimono of SHIROMUKU and UCHIKAKE, but there are some opinions of the name on origin.
When monetary reform was performed by 8th Shogun (Yoshimune Tokugawa Shogun) in Edo period, it's said that old Japanese gold coin was called "BUNKIN".
A man in those days calls to do the hair "BUNKINFUU" that makes graceful from the height of its topknot, and the style is spread to the female gradually, and it seems to be developed into” BUNKINTAKASHIMADA”.
Also, it is said that "TAKASHIMADA" is one kind of Shimada topknots which did the root of hair highly. There are also various views for the history of "the Shimada topknot".
There is an opinion, at early stage in the Edo period a dance performer, Shimada Hanayoshi in Kyoto Shijo had begun this hairstyle around Kanei era by something famous.
Originally, it's said that TAKASHIMADA was a hairstyle of the young female of the samurai family and a harlot in old days.
In those days, there were three hundreds styles of BUNKINTAKASHIMADA , and it came to be used as bride's hairstyle gradually, and after Meiji period, it was being bride’s formal hairstyle for the wedding ceremony with dressing a white kimono SHIROMUKU and UCHIKAKE as bride's formal attire.
The wedding ceremony in our time, there are many situations like wearing a wig of BUNKINTAKASHIMADA, but when the length of your hair is about a chest, it's possible to make up BUNKINTAKASHIMADA by your own hair.
